Platoon Kunsthalle

Last year a new building went up in the posh neighborhood of Apgujeong. Actually it’s more than just a building, it’s a community. Originating in Germany the Platoon concept focuses on harnessing the power of artists through interconnectivity and collective purpose towards giving birth to creative ideas and seeing them nurtured to fruition. Whether it’s video, painting, installation art, music, fashion, sculpture, drama, literature, poetry or whatever the chosen medium

At Platoon Kunsthalle the artistic reigns supreme. Here you can mix and mingle with likeminded folks interested not only in art and culture, but also politics and citizen activism. Here the subculture dominates and those on the fringe can come out into the light to make their voices and faces known.

The folks behind Platoon match action with their words. There are several studio spaces for artists to apply for and utilize to create and craft their work. The atmosphere is electric. Just being in a space that inspires the imagination fires the creative energy. Inside the possibilities seem endless. To date Platoon Kunsthalle has been a space for gallery showings, workshops, discussion panels, film screenings, exhibitions; DJ showcases, an award show venue, public viewings of sporting matches, and also hosts a monthly night flea market.

The defining signature of Platoon Kunsthalle is the cargo containers that form the building. In total 28 containers are used. They can be taken down, rearranged, and put back together again to move the building to a new location. A highlight of the architecture is the four showcases on the front face of the building. Here the aim is to present the work of upcoming artists whose talent might not otherwise have the opportunity nor the platform to reach a wide audience. Each artist usually has a month to exhibit their work, however, for the month of June to celebrate the World Cup 2010 South Africa, the work of photographer Marc Brinkmeier will be on display in all four showcases.

Platoon Kunshalle also doubles as a restaurant and bar. Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 1 am German food like curry sausages, schnitzel, and German meatballs are on hand.

By way of example: Converting mind waves in order to radio surf would allow you to operate pcs, televisions, and other
electronics just by thinking about it. Converting radio
stations waves in order to brain lake would represent something like mind treatment.
Devices could then have the capacity to control the actual human mind.
