Cherry Blossoms

KMK: Cherry Blossoms Yeouido 2010

Lifestyle Nature

This year the Cherry blossoms did a fake out. The inclement weather pushed the festivities and cherry blossom enjoyment back a few days. Some missed out because of the freakish cold spell delaying everything, but for those lucky enough to have the time to catch the blossoms in all their glory it proved to be a spectacular time.

Some may argue, but I still believe the best place to see the blossoms in Seoul remains the walkway along Yeouido. There you can enjoy the cherry blossoms while also admiring the view along the Han. This not only includes the magnificent river, but also the people and the newly finished park attraction which surely be inundated this summer by picnickers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

The highlight of the newly renovated area is the reflecting pool waterfall combination that bisects the park. It truly is lovely with sharp geometric shapes used to direct the flow of the water all the way to the river. There’s a huge bike and path that allows traffic to cut through but there are also stepping stones and other means for you to cross. They have also added concert pavilions, cafes, and shops along the river as well.

The cold may have held the Cherry blossoms at bay for a few days, but it was more than worth the wait to see them at the new Yeoido park. You may have missed them, but the park certainly isn’t going any where go get your friends and loved ones and make the trip down there on the first warm day we get.
