Dinerllike in Gangnam

The name could’ve said it all, but it doesn’t. The Diner’s I like don’t serve exorbitantly pricey food. The thing about diners that appeals to people first is the home cooking style of the food. The second is the price. DinerLike tanks on both, but that’s not to say that the food isn’t tasty. Let me explain.

Diner food should be simple. It doesn’t need any fancy pants cooking school tricks to be good. Diner food should be what your mom cooked at home like mashed potatoes, meatloaf, burgers, or bacon and eggs. That’s food made with love, comforting for the soul and the perfect remedy for homesick expats looking for a taste of home.

DinerLike, however, has other ideas. They’ve taken the simple dishes mom used to make and turned them upside down with a sprig of parsley as garnish. If mom ever put parsley on the plate you know you’d have given her the side eye. And even if she did, once mind you; it was probably a hysterical reaction induced by the unattainable feats of Martha Stewart.

Instead of simplicity DinerLike runs with an out all avant-garde mission to tantalize the taste buds. They have dishes like garlic & chili rucola spaghetti, smoked duck breast strudel, tiger prawns & avocado watercress salad, and Norwegian premium smoked salmon with cucumber raita sauce. I never saw any of the truck drivers dining on that at local greasy spoon back home.

Prices run from the 4,500Won soup of the day all the way up to about 35,000 won for a main dish. The burger and chips comes in at a decent 9000 won. I have to admit it was pretty good. The bread was just right. The burger was juicy. And it didn’t devolve into a big mess. Not the best burger I’ve had here but a good second possibly third place finish.

Ian had the garlic and chili rucola. They warned him it was spicy and they weren’t lying. The only problem was that the amount of garlic proved to be overkill. Usually I can’t get enough, but yeah they managed to out do even Mad for Garlic which is a Herculean feat.

For Directions give DinerLike a call. They are in Gangnam Located sort of near Coex and Seolleung Staion on the green line.
