Are you living all on your own? Do you wake up to a mountain of clothes badly in need of washing? Do you come home from work to a stack of dirty dishes? Well, since you’re living in Korea you don’t have to worry anymore because do I have news for you! No, its not a magic genie in a bottle but it’s the next best thing: a maid!

Hold on you say! Maids are for the wealthy arugula cucumber sandwich eating la-de-da fancy folks with money! You know, people like the Jeffersons! Well, I’m here to tell you that you can have your very own Floerence, except well she’ll probably be Korean or Filipina and might not have quite so much verve and vigor unless of course you pay extra for that.

See, for only about 10,000 Won an hour you can have a maid come over to your place to do cleaning, cooking, ironing, and washing! Heck, she might even do a few lesson plans for class if you ask nicely and kick in a few extra bucks. My friend Jodie has had a maid for quite some time and she can’t possibly do without her. Jodie appreciates her maid so much that she even cleans before that lady gets there!

The name for a maid in Korean is 파출부. The cost can be anywhere between 20,000 to 50,000 won a day. Some places like you to commit to a schedule, but others might be fine with a once in awhile rush out of the blue cleaning job.

The market seems to be cornered by Filipinas, who speak English, and Korean Ajummas. Now where can you find these lovely ladies?
