KMK: Mother

Korean Meryl Streep

I don’t know who she is or even the name of the movie she’s in, but I love her. She’s a cinematic tour-de-force, a tragic Shakespearean heroine and the Korean Meryl Streep. I know that’s high praise but just look at that eyebrow and how much work it’s doing! Only Meryl can put so much emotional heft into a single raised eyebrow. Well, Meryl and now our Korean counterpart.

Some of you may feel the lofty label is undeserved and that may be so, I mean, I’ve never seen her act in a movie, but I’ve seen her in my movie trailers! This matron of the dramatic arts would appear on the screen, before X-Men Wolverine, in dingy clothes fighting through rioting crowds. Before Angels and Demons she raced down dark empty streets with her hair frayed and blowing in the wind. And with her face rubbed raw with anguish but set in determination she stashed away a lethal looking murder weapon used by her mentally challenged murderous son before Star Trek.

Of course my psychic critic powers could be wrong about her and she could be a Faye Dunaway understudy in disguise, which would amount to unnecessarily dramatic histrionics and tortured facial expressions. However, based on the trailer alone, my fingers are crossed and I’m hoping for the best.

I think you are right. Only a dedicated actress would allow herself to look like that. A star would not.

But seriously, I’ve seen her on TV as well and she is good. I think the new movie she’s in (Mother) is highly anticipated. You should review it!! :)
