Maybe you’ve seen the brightly colored plush monster toys on a nearby shelf in your local toy store? You know the ones: cuddly in that Addams Family kinda of way. Well, those toys are the by product of an American Illustrator and his Korean girlfriend (they are now Married) who created the line of toys from a sketch on one of their love letters. And thus Ugly Dolls were born.
Now the toys can be found all over the world and have even been featured in Hollywood movies. I think they are the next step in cutesy gruesome toys like the once popular Garbage Pail Kids. Come to think of it, even Cabbage Patch dolls looked fairly monstrous. The Chosun has an article that features the couple.
In any case these babies are selling like hot cakes so if you’re a collectible type of person then go get your hands on them now. I’m sure in twenty years you’ll be hocking them on Ebay. Each Ugly comes with a personal background story.
Kudos to the couple for scoring with a well timed good idea. Though I just don’t get it myself.
