KMK: America’s Next Top What?

Arts TV
Move over Tyra Banks. Ford‘s Supermodel of the World contest has just takent the spotlight off America’s Next Top Model, if it was every really on her is debatable, and firmly on to Korea’s Seung-hyun Kang. Fifty women from around the world are brought together to compete for the 250,000 dollar Ford Contract prize.

I applaud Ford for embracing diversity and putting the spotlight on a model of color. And also bow down to the snark when one of the Ford Supermodel of the World prospects, Ajuma from Kenya, had this to say:

“This one is so much better, because you get to the agents directly, from all
over the world,” said Ajuma. “If they like you, they’re going to sign you.
‘America’s Next Top Model’ is showbiz! You get the real models doing this
competition.”

Ouch! Ajuma came after Tyra with a Left Hook to the face! Not to be outdone by one of her modelesque girls a former model, Carmen Dell’Orifice, which if that’s not a drag name I don’t know what is, had this add:

“This is authentic,” said Dell’Orifice “The ones on television are made for time
and space in a very synthetic way to appease the narcissistic, lazy public that
has nothing better to do.”

Right Cross to Tyra’s Chin. I’ve long thought that ANTM is bascially fun mindless TV, but I mean, Tyra could at least try to find real models right? If you’re going to go through all that effort for the drama why not throw some real diamonds in the rough in the competition?
