KMK: Shabu Shabu

Food Victuals
No, it’s not a new and exotic massage technique, it’s actually a Japanese food dish! Who knew? Certainly not me; so when my boss decided to take the English and Korean speaking staff out to dinner I experienced a fantastic treat.

The restaurant we went to catered to the sit down and squat crowd. I’m not a big fan. I’m a tall guy with long legs and no one will ever accuse me of being flexible-yoga and Pilates instructors probably break out laughing when they watch me in action.

The table is set with several burners that cook up the food. Shabu shabu is a hot pot dish filled with a spicy broth stuffed with cabbage, mushrooms, potatoes, onions and seaweed. You can practically add anything you want to the hot pot.

A plate of thinly sliced beef accompanies the meal. As the pot simmers you take slices of the meat and submerge them into the pot until they are browned and ready to eat. Then you help yourself to a serving of vegetables and meat and eat away.
It really is a weighty and tasty meal. Ours came with side dishes of kimchi. As the vegetables and meat begin to be eaten a bowl of noodles is added to the hot pot broth. Then, after we devoured that, the hot pot is filled with a rice dish with vegetables and an egg and presto, we have fried rice.
I took plenty of pictures, but my evil new camera up and died and I think I should just invest in a canon or something really indestructible. You have to settle for googled internet pics!

After dinner we went to a Karakoke bar, but that is definitely a story for another time.
